P E R I P A T E T I C P R A X I S:
Collaborators Francesca Pedulla and Christos Galanis have together developed Peripatetic Praxis; a body of knowledge and experience that uses the study of the basic gesture of walking as an entry point into an intersubjective study of biomechanics, migration, art, ritual, ancestry, and consciousness.
Weaving together a variety of both intellectual and somatic explorations in the format of multiday workshops, Peripatetic Praxis offers a process for participants to deeply integrate both theoretical and embodied knowledge that recognizes the body as a site of dialogue between self and environment, time and space.

Biomechanical principles based on The Axis Syllabus are applied to understanding our bodies’ evolutionary history and the unique properties of our bipedal ancestry that so profoundly shaped our species – both physically and culturally. By tuning into the fascinating architecture of our bodies, an appreciation for efficiency of movement, kinetic pathways, energy flow, and somatic wisdom will be better understood through both theory and hands-on exploration and experimentation.
Simultaneously, a deeper understanding and appreciation of our individual and collective somatic composition brings us into greater resonance with our human ancestry. Further, it expands our construct of ancestry to include a co-evolutionary model of species development; one that recognizes the replication of foundational life-processes and structures across all life forms, at both the micro and macro level.

Finally, through original exercises developed through Peripatetic Praxis, participants use their own bodies as sensual methodology to explore questions such as:
- What is walking, and what is dancing?
- Where is the threshold between the two?
- How does walking provide a medium for the complex internalization and performance of identity?
- How does an individual’s manner of walking construct, internalize, and transmit class, gender, race, ethnicity, belonging, and otherness?
Peripatetic Praxis is taught in both indoor and outdoor locations, taking advantage of the unique architectures and ecologies of their surroundings. Each workshop responds and adapts to issues and sensitivities informed by the location of the workshop, as well as the insights and interests brought by the participants. As an expression of experimental pedagogy, Francesca and Christos value the collaborative nature of their co-teaching methods. They have high regard for the input and tensions brought by the participants as crucial information and feedback that provides a rich, relational field of collective inquiry. Such dynamics have repeatedly provided for knowledge and insights that would otherwise not have found expression through individualistic models of specialization and competition.
